our roots

LEAF is an acronym for “live. environmental. architectural. functional”

Leaf Furniture has grown from a dream and a love of creating eye catching pieces. Made with passion, commitment and skill. Inspired by our surroundings and the things that fill it. We strive to make pieces that are unique in nature.

Lars Laug is the maker at “Leaf Furniture”. Canadian born. Lars started out as a ski technician during and after school. He moved to Western Canada to pursue his love of skiing.  This is where he met his sole mate Leesa.

They soon moved to Australia to live. Leesa’s step Dad was a wooden boat builder. He built their beautiful family home. Inspired by this and by working with him Lars gained his love for design and woodworking.

Lars Laug (maker) started as a carpenter building architectural homes on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Over the years providing clients with not only high quality renovations, but also finishing by often making bespoke furniture and lighting to complete the picture. Over 17 years working as a carpenter/joiner he developed many skills and has a very open mind when approaching any project!

In 2011 Leesa was working at “Rewind Mid Century Furniture” restoring pieces from the mid century. Inspired by seeing all of the mid century designs Lars decided that he needed to make his dream come true and put 100% of his energy into making furniture full time. Leesa & Lars Created Leaf Handcrafted Furniture.

Lars & Leesa work as a team feeding off of each other’s creative ideas to come up with unique pieces that are functional, modern and eye-catching. Inspired by Mid Century, Scandinavian and Contemporary furniture tending towards contemporary furniture with sculpted elements.

With every design Lars is pushing his boundaries by trying new things. We have pride in our creations not letting anything leave the workshop until we are 100% happy with the creation. Thefore we only make a few pieces a year to have enough time to put into each piece.

We enjoy creative pieces often inspired by materials, environments or the clients! (that the piece is made for). We are always striving to create with a high standard so that each piece can be kept for a lifetime and beyond.

In 2019 Leaf Handcrafted Furniture was one of the Top 10 Favourite Commissioned makers for “The Best Custom Furniture projects” from Handkrafted a platform for makers and buyers.

In 2021 Leaf Handcrafted Furniture made the short list for the Wood Review “Maker of the year”

Leaf Furniture has received international recognition with clients and makers, Lars would put up stories on social media  of the process of making furniture that was watched by thousands, a lot of makers would contact Lars for tips or when they were stuck on a project.

Lars felt the need to return to his native country. After a few visits to Revelstoke, BC it was decided this was the place for them. It's a small town with big Mountains, rainforests and the Columbia River flowing through with an emerging creative scene. A great place to be inspired. With the International market growing Canada seemed to be a better location for Leaf Furniture.

We had found the perfect workshop (A workshop that housed the world's largest supplier of spruce guitar tops over the last 25 years). It felt like it was meant to be. Once we settled in and set up shop we made a few changes. We decided to shorten the name to “Leaf Furniture” and change the logo a little.

We are expanding our range little by little looking forward to working with clients that want custom pieces. Lars has a lot of brain explosion pieces that he would like to work on for Art Galleries and clients.

Having handmade furniture is personal. It allows you to have a creation in your head come to life. It gives you something specifically made for you.  An expression of you in your home.  We want to keep it that way. Unique furniture made for you.
